Basketball Tips from Coach Jones

Bio Continued...

Coach Jones has over 22 years of basketball experience as a player, coach and player development instructor.

Coach Jones has always been a student of the game. As a child, TJ didn’t start playing basketball until the age of 14. With little help from coaches or relatives (Coach Jones’ Uncle played for the New York Knicks), he taught himself how to play the game of basketball by watching games on television and tapes on basketball teachings of various coaches. In high school he was one of the top players in his high school history (ranked 14th in the state). He later went to UTSA to become at team captain as a sophomore. After UTSA coach Jones still had the desire to play the game of basketball. After playing in Europe and a short stint in Mexico, he decided that he wasn't as passionate about playing basketball as he was helping developing players.

Coach Jones went on to pursue his passion for developing players and became director of basketball operations at Home Court America in San Antonio. As Director of Basketball Operations, Coach Jones was responsible for developing new programs along with maintaining and increasing the quality of the existing basketball structure. Later he had the opportunity of becoming an assistant coach at a division 1 university. At as a college coach, he was extremely instrumental in player development.

Coach Jones is very unique in the aspect of working with different age groups. For some coaches, it is very difficult for them to coach and develop youth and also have the same success with developing college level players and professional players. He works well with all age groups and is very successful with them.

The Ultimate Champions Philosophy

In order to be successful, there has to be a strong foundation. If a builder is building a house, he must have a strong foundation in order for the house to stand properly over time. Well, the same is for basketball. There must be a strong foundation in fundamentals for continuous individual improvement.  In addition to an emphasis on skill development, camp will also aim to improve each players athleticism and explosiveness.

Camp Meals

Lunch/snacks are not provided. Half day campers are encouraged to eat prior to arrival. Full day campers are asked to bring a packed lunch.

Camper Evaluation

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. In addition, campers will be evaluated and then split up into smaller groups according to age and ability. Parents are invited to attend the closing ceremony! Departure immediately following.

Transportation is not provided by the camp to or from any airports. If you are flying to or from camp, we recommend using an airport shuttle service. Please schedule flights as close as you can to the check-in times on the first day and check-out times on the last day.

Registration Packet

A detailed camper registration packet containing check-in location, health/release forms, emergency contact numbers, and a checklist of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers prior to the start of camp. The US Sports Camps health and release forms do not require a doctor's signature and they will be collected on the first day of camp.

We cannot offer scholarships due to NCAA regulations. Our affiliation with NCAA coaches and schools puts us in a position where any scholarship money can be seen as an inducement to a future collegiate athlete. This puts our coaches and our host universities in jeopardy of damaging their status with the NCAA and incurring penalties at the hands of their organizing body.

Group Discounts

If five or more campers register together, each camper is eligible for a $20 discount. If 10 or more campers register together, each camper is eligible for a $40 discount. Teams can register online or via mail/fax.

  • To register your team online: Please have a team contact reach out directly to the USSC office at 1-800-645-3226 to receive a discount code to identify your group. Campers may then register individually through the website at their convenience and apply the coupon code during check-out.
  • To register your team via mail/fax: Click "Get Brochure" above and print the application. All applications must be received at the same time via mail or fax. If all members of your group pay with a Visa or MasterCard, feel free to fax your applications to 415-479-6061 to expedite processing.

I was impressed with Coach TJ and his staff.

June 24, 2016: I was impressed with Coach TJ beginning every morning with a word of the day, ex. "pride", and relating it to good sportsmanship and everyday life. I also appreciated the amount of respect the camp members had for each other while learning their skills and having fun. Great organization and discipline! Great coaches, especially Coach White!

The coaches are serious about basketball.

July 15, 2016: This camp met all of my son's expectations. This was our second year attending and my son loves the fact that the coaches are serious about basketball and encourage all campers to pay attention and care about improving. He has fun, but he also expects to learn! Add more camps - we'd like more dates to choose from or be able to attend more than once.

The best camp I've seen in San Antonio!

July 16, 2016: The best camp I've seen in San Antonio! Excellent organization and structure. Practicing the skills they learned during instruction in a game-like setting was instrumental to their learning. The gym was well lit, clean, and a great learning environment. I really liked how the facilities were all one common area. No camper had any reason to leave the line of sight of the coaches. I felt my child was in a very safe environment. Strong, effective leadership by the director who remained hands on and accessible to campers and parents. The coaches clearly loved their job and understood basketball. Great job, great camp!

The experience we were looking for in a basketball camp.

July 25, 2016: The camp was very focused, it was all about learning and playing the game rather than a fun day of basketball with friends. This was the experience we were looking for in a basketball camp. The coaches were fantastic and coach to camper ratio was excellent. Would love to see a two week camp to help build on skills.

Terrance Jones and his team of coaches made a lasting impression.

My son has attended other basketball camps but this one is in a league of its own! Terrance Jones and his team of coaches made a lasting impression on my son and he looks forward to attending next year. I'm amazed at how much he learned.

My child improved so much in such a short time!

My 9 yr old beginner improved so much in such a short time! He wanted to practice more at home. The camp director was excellent! He is very knowledge, great with the kids, and also incorporated discipline (which you don't see much anymore!). I would recommend the camp to everyone.

The coaches helped with the kids morale and enthusiasm for the game.

As a parent I enjoyed watching my child gravitate more to learning how to play the game. As a kid who has never played Basketball want to learn and become a better player. I liked how much of an improvement and growth from the beginning to the end in his technique and his strive to play the sport and excel. My favorite part of the camp is the positivie morale that the coaches showed to the kids. That hard work and have fun attitude that helped influence the kids. It helped impact the kids in a positive manor in wanting to learn and play basketball. They helped with the kids morale and enthusiasm for the game and to play hard and work hard.

A great experience for my child.

Overall the Nike was a great experience for my child. We have participated in many other camps before. The instructors at each training station took the time to make sure each child understood what was being taught and how this would benefit them in a game. Also each instructor would work with each child to increase their individual moral and ensure them with work they would get it down. Other camps I've had my child go to I the past seem to just want as many kids to sign up to benefit them financial. Instead of looking out for the players benefit.

I would like to attend more of these camps.

The camp director was very spot on with every drill and made things fun at the same time. I have never been to a Nike basketball camp before, I would like to attend more of these camps and recommend it to all those who have a passion for basketball or are willing to learn about the game. I was surprised how there was people from all around Texas and even a couple of people from Mexico City, Mexico.
